change in plan- new idea

Due to timings and conditions on location and weather, we had to change our plan for our piece. This was a bit of a downer for us as we had put a lot of time and effort into planning for the piece but came to the conclusion that this aim would not be able to be successful in the short amount of time that we had . We decided to go for a more simpler idea in which would be easier to complete. This idea consisted of an old man looking back at his past in which was with his wife , who he has sadly lost due to her death. One of the locations in which we decided we would use was Sutton lawn , a local attraction , as this would provide space for field filming and also other aspects like trees and a pond in which do not give off a modern feel , which is what we needed as we wanted to film the flashbacks of the old man of his young self here.

As we wanted our film to look as authentic as possible , we decided that we would look at using a title sequence to come before the start of the film .

we decided to create fake names for cast , crew and production companies , as by using these in our piece that it would add to the original , but authentic look for the begining of the film.

posters

posters are one of the essential ways of advertising films to the public. These need to be eye catching and stick in peoples minds .

when we look at this poster , we are firstly drawn to the face of the woman . Her expression shows us that she is puzzled and confused about something. we then notice that she is in the middle of two men. women viewers may think that these men are sexualy attractive and this may be one of the apealing features for them. other people may be wondering about the love triangle and want to find out more , by watching the film.
The bright pink writing is very eye catching and will atract the publics eye. The handwriting above the heads makes it very welcoming as it has been written and drawn with arrows. The tag line is also short and sweet and sums up the story , but leaves the public wanting to know more.

 

ratings

Ratings are important to the film industry as it is essential to monitor how well or not well a film is doing in cinemas and to analyse audience responses to the release of the film. when looking at a recent release of a rom com, I Give It A Year , we are able to see that it currently ranks at number 11 in the ratings charts after being out for 4 weeks. when looking at the rest of the list though , it is mainly overun by action thrillers and kids movies .At this moment in time , romcoms are not around too much these days and only pop up every so often , so these ratings for the rom/coms that are out , are essential for analysing how future rom/coms can be made succesfull.

tastes and trends

when looking at the audiences who are attracted to the genre of rom/coms , we are able to also establish that they also like similar things as each other.

when looking on the amazon page , after looking to buy a copy of love actually , we are able to see a display of other films in which other customers have looked at buying , after purchasing love actually. These films are also rom/coms , therefore we can see that the rom com audience are a devoted one to their favourite genre of movie.

when looking at the characteristics of audiences who like rom/coms , we can assume that most of the audience will consist of females , as they are most attracted to the romantacism and so called lovey dovey side of the films ,but will also enjoy the comedy. These women will also range from young women to middle aged ones , as there is something for all of these ages to find appealing. They will probably listen to some of the most popular tacks of the time and also shop at places like new look for their fashion fix.

production and distribution companies - rom/coms

Typical companies in which can be seen to produce rom/coms are universal pictures, miramax, studio canal, columbia pictures corporation, happy madison productions, fox searchlight pictures, new line cinema, working title films and 20th century fox film companies. These companies are important to keeping the rom/com genre going by investing their time and money into creating these types of films .
  One of the production companies i have mentioned as producing many rom coms is the company 20th century fox . This company is one of the biggest production companies in thye film industry and also produces films for many other genres , such as sci-fi, action, thrillers and childrens movies , to name a few. As this company is very big , it has a lot of power in the industry , therefore will get a better look in to hitting the box offices with smash hit films.
